Avoiding Frozen Waterlines

The cold weather is quickly approaching, which means that it’s time to start winterizing the waterlines on your property. Winterizing will protect your home from broken waterlines that could flood your home.

Focus on all outdoor waterlines, including:
  • Hose bibs
  • Taps
  • Waterlines to pool cabanas
  • Waterlines to barns

Consider switching to a frost free hose bib (hose bib that can be used year round, and is protected from freezing).

Making Winter Easier on Farms
  • Install frost free yard hydrants, to be used instead of hauling heavy buckets of water, or pulling a hose to provide water to the animals
  • A frost free hydrant has waterlines that are buried 4 feet underground, which drain back down after each use, to avoid freezing
If you are going away on vacation during the winter months, remember to shut the water off to your home. This will protect you from arriving home to a flooded house. We often hear from customers, "But the waterline couldn't have froze; it never has before...?" There is always a possibility for freezing, and taking this proactive step will save you a lot of stress, and money.
